Sheado.net is entering Furdiburb, the #1 virtual pet game in the Google Play Store, into the Independent Game Festival. Not only is Furdiburb about virtual pet adoption, players are presented with adventure gameplay in which they must help their pet fix up a broken spaceship by playing mini-games and solving puzzles.

The Independent Games Festival (IGF) is an annual competition at the Game Developers Conference (the largest annual congregation of the independent video game industry) to help drive innovation and creativity for indie games.

Furdiburb might qualify for a lot of the categories at the IGF competition. Alice Lo's original musical compositions could be a contender in the Excellence in Audio award. In terms of innovation, Furdiburb's unique world and its cross-breed genre might garner attention for the Nuovo (innovation) Award. Other categories that will appeal to Furdiburb include: Best Mobile Game, Excellence in Visual Art, Excellence in Design, and the Audience Award.

Sheado.net is hoping Furdiburb gets some recognition for the creative way it combines the virtual pet with adventure and puzzle genres. The game also features beautiful 2D paper cut-out style artwork and quirky humor.

"Our game has been in beta for years!" exclaimed Chad Ata, co-founder and developer. "We've received tons of happy and angry emails which we've listened to as we designed our game to satisfy the extremely diverse audience that exists in Google Play. The result is a game that lets you play casually if you want or be the total adventure gamer that completes all the quests and solves all the puzzles. That's the main reason we didn't want to create a traditional virtual pet game."

Furdiburb, the virtual pet, is currently in beta. Version 1.0 is slated for release in Winter 2012.
